Master the $10 price band
Products under $10 get Low-Price FBA rates — about $0.86 cheaper per unit. A product priced at $9.99 can earn more than the same product at $10.49. Test both sides of the band in the calculator before you commit.
Know exactly what Amazon takes from every sale — referral fee, fulfillment fee by size tier, fuel surcharge and storage — then price your product with real margin, ROI and break-even numbers.
Every FBA sale pays up to four charges: a referral fee based on category, a fulfillment fee based on size tier, shipping weight and price band, a 3.5% fuel surcharge on that fulfillment fee, and a monthly storage fee. The calculator above reads the same 2026 rate card published here.
Every item sold on Amazon pays a referral fee — a percentage of the sale price that depends on the category. Most categories charge 15% with a $0.30 per-item minimum, but rates range from 8% (computers, consumer electronics) to 45% (Amazon device accessories). Several categories use tiered pricing: clothing drops to 5% under $15, while jewelry, watches, furniture and electronics accessories charge a lower rate only on the portion of the price above a threshold.
The fulfillment fee covers picking, packing and shipping your order. In 2026 Amazon sorts products into five size tiers — small standard, large standard, small bulky (new for 2026), large bulky and extra-large — and publishes fees in three price bands: under $10 (Low-Price FBA rates), $10–$50, and over $50. Shipping weight is the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight (L×W×H÷139) for large standard and up. Rates below are non-peak (Jan 15 – Oct 14) and exclude the 3.5% fuel surcharge; holiday peak rates (Oct 15 – Jan 14) run about $0.19–$8.51 higher per unit depending on tier.

Non-peak rates (Jan 15 – Oct 14, 2026), non-apparel, before the 3.5% fuel surcharge. Apparel and dangerous goods rate cards differ slightly. Last verified:
Find your category below — the calculator applies these same rates, including price thresholds and per-item minimums. Media items (books, DVDs, music, software, video) also pay a $1.80 closing fee per unit sold.

FBA inventory is billed monthly per cubic foot of space it occupies. Standard-size products pay $0.78 per cu ft from January to September and $2.40 per cu ft in the October–December peak; oversize rates are lower per cu ft but the volume is usually bigger. Dangerous goods have their own rate card. Long-term storage (181+ days) adds an aged-inventory surcharge on top.

Four more charges can apply: inbound placement service fees ($0.14–$1.90/unit for standard size, avoidable with Amazon-optimized shipment splits of 5+ identical cartons), the low-inventory-level fee ($0.32–$2.09 when historical days of supply drops below 28), aged inventory surcharges for stock older than 181 days, and return processing fees when a category's return-rate threshold is exceeded (apparel and shoes pay on every return). Extra-large units over 96 inches long or 130 inches in length plus girth add a $17–$25 Overmax handling fee.

A package 0.1 inch over a tier boundary pays the next tier's fee on every unit. Dimensional weight (L×W×H÷139) punishes airy boxes from large standard up. Audit your packaging — moving from large bulky to the new small bulky tier saves around 20% per unit.
From October 15 to January 14, fulfillment fees rise $0.19–$8.51 per unit and storage triples to $2.40/cu ft for standard size. Run your hero SKUs through the peak season toggle now — your break-even price moves whether you re-price or not.
For a typical $25 product in a 15% category that ships as large standard at 1.5 lb, Amazon takes a $3.75 referral fee plus about $5.42 in fulfillment fees ($5.61 with the 3.5% fuel surcharge) plus roughly $0.10 monthly storage — around $9.50 total before your product and inbound shipping costs. Exact numbers depend on category, size tier, weight band and price band, which is why this calculator exists.
Amazon first assigns your packaged product a size tier from its dimensions and weight: small standard (≤15×12×0.75 in, ≤16 oz), large standard (≤18×14×8 in, ≤20 lb), small bulky (≤37×28×20 in, ≤50 lb), large bulky (≤59×33×33 in, ≤50 lb) or extra-large. It then bills a per-unit fee by shipping weight — the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight for most tiers — and by price band (under $10, $10–$50, over $50). From April 17, 2026 a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge is added on top.
Dimensional weight = length × width × height ÷ 139 (in inches). For large standard and bigger tiers, Amazon charges on whichever is greater: your scale weight or dimensional weight. A light but bulky box — say 24×18×12 in — bills at 37 lb even if it only weighs 20 lb. Tight, right-sized packaging is one of the biggest fee levers you control.
Four headline changes: fulfillment fees are now published in three price bands (under $10, $10–$50, over $50); a new small bulky tier (≤37×28×20 in) sits between large standard and large bulky with rates about 20% lower; a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to every fulfillment fee from April 17; and holiday peak rates run October 15, 2026 through January 14, 2027. Referral fee rates are unchanged from 2025.
It depends on your shipping cost. FBM still pays the category referral fee but skips the FBA fulfillment and storage fees — you pay your own postage and packing instead. Small, light, fast-moving products usually favor FBA; heavy, oversized or slow-moving items often net more as FBM. Use the FBA vs FBM mode above to compare both margins side by side with your real shipping quotes.
